What happened at the Trump campaign?? Classic DC-style “layering” - @parscale keeps title of campaign manager and Bill Stepien takes the reins. The details here: businessinsider.com/kushner-revamp…
Talk to eight different factions in Trump World and get eight different stories — but the central nugget remains: Kushner (and Trump) moved Stepien up at the campaign following a dismal two month slide
Some folks said this was always the plan, move Parscale aside after Memorial Day — but the final straw seemed to be a Thursday meeting at the White House w the battleground state directors from AZ and FL ... all the details packed in there (subscription reqd - and worth it)
What was fascinating (to me at least) was how much of a bloodless coup this was — very DC, and very much an evolution from the messes of 2016 and Trump’s first two years in office
Also notable for as much as this was a clear power play, it didn’t exactly introduce a new player on the field — Stepien has been around almost since the beginning. It solidifies the common knowledge in Trump World that Kushner still holds the keys
One thing I heard repeatedly was a sort of corporate, managerial sentiment to Kushner’s decision making (some Trump types love that, others not so much)
