@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa William Jones wrote a book in 1986 entitled "Is God a White Racist? A Preamble to Black Theology." He was an existentialist philosopher who reframed the problem of evil as a question about the violence of antiblackness.
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa The philosophical problem of evil has usually been framed like this: If God is so good, then where does evil happen? Philosophers and theologians, at least since Irenaeus, have provided varying responses to this question. But since modernity (and at least since Hume)...
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa This question has become a logical one. In other words, people have tried to make God's goodness and God's power be logically consistent with the presence of evil and suffering in this world.
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa But Jones asks the question differently: the problem of evil isn't simply a logical problem--especially for black people. The pervasiveness of antiblack violence--transgenerational in nature, diffuse in its effects, and enduring in its duration...
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa means that the question of black suffering is irreducible to logical consistency. It must play out in the plane of black history and in the concrete ground of black experience. If this is the case, then the question isn't one of logical consistency; its a question of God's...
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa perspective and God's motivations. In this regard, the question isn't whether or not God is good, but instead whether or not God understands "goodness" in ways that resonate with black justice and black liberation.
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa In other words, the question is whether or not God deems black suffering (due to antiblack violence) as a problem or as the carrying out of God's will. If, as black theologians often suggest, God supports black liberation, then they must provide the existential (not logical)...
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa evidence for God's desire to see black people liberated. This would mean, then that there would be existential shifts in blackness--that blackness wouldn't be tethered to death and suffering, that blackness wouldn't exist as a kind of nothingness that secures white existence.
@_KrisLK @amaryah_sa Sorry that was so long, but that's the gist. I hope it helps.
