I can't stress how big of a deal it is that SIX WHITE MALE ALDERMEN (the whole board) in a historic white flight town in Mississippi just called for their mayor to resign over racist comments about George Floyd.

But that's what happened to Petal Mayor Hal Marx just now.

NEW: Marc Davis called 911 after a car crash in Petal, Mississippi, saying he needed an ambulance.

Soon after, a witness tells me she saw a responding officer shoot Davis, whose empty hands she says were "stretched out like Jesus," 3 times, killing him.

Before Tara Reade was widely reported on, I had concerns about the inconsistencies in her stories.

The reason I didn't tweet about her allegations for a while is bc I couldn't responsibly do so w/out noting those inconsistencies.

But I worried that'd feel like punching down. 1/
And especially as a man, I thought it'd be best to wait and see, especially since major media outlets were holding off on reporting her allegations bc of concerns about red flags they saw & lack of corroboration. So I took a "wait-and-see" approach. 2/
The issues with Tara Reade's story didn't get better and other concerns about a pattern of behavior arose, but I knew sexual assault victims don't have to be perfect or 100% consistent for their stories to be true... 3/

Or that vital community organizing around civil rights & justice still goes on in black churches today? 2/
How can you not know that two Jewish boys from up north, Michael Schwerner & Andrew Goodman, died alongside James Chaney in Philadelphia, Mississippi while fighting for civil rights—a movement that many Jewish leaders embraced as part of their religious values? 3/
