It is making the case for government intervention. The loser will ultimately be free speech. As Brandeis wrote “to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the process of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence.”
The glorification of violence is certainly a matter of great concern, but so is glorifying censorship. Twitter is abandoning its role in supplying a forum for such issues and becoming an active part of the debate. That may be satisfying and popular but it is private censorship.
The warning obscures the tweet which is accessible by clicking on "view." Twitter says that it elected to allow access. Thus, it is creating the barrier rather than removing as done in other cases. It is still a system of content-based speech regulation. variety.com/2020/digital/n…
