This week, as many weeks, months, and years before it, have been especially hard for the Black community. We have seen, heard, or experienced so many acts of violence towards the Black community, and many days it feels unending. (Thread) Three illustrations in a row depicting George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery by Shirien Damra
/ From jogging, sleeping at home, going to a park, birdwatching, asking for assistance, driving – just existing, our communities are constantly targeted and attacked while the perpetrators are barely reprimanded.
/ While I do not have all the answers, I do know this: our communities can only thrive when loved and cared for. My question for you is, how can you act to solidarity and care for our Black community?
/ From educating yourself on the history of racism, talking with friends and family about these issues, directly supporting efforts to bring justice for those who have been harmed, calling for reform, or something else, we all have a role in calling for justice.
/ And true justice cannot and will not exist until we dismantle unjust institutions that empower the on-going assault on Black lives.
/ I hope you join me and other community leaders this morning at 11:30am to lift up those lost to acts of violence either in person (practice good health and safety measures: wear a mask, bring hand sanitizer, physical distance, etc) or via livestream facebook.com/PDXNAACP/
