Defense Minister Chang Che Ping informed lawmakers about the plans during a committee meeting on May 28, 2020.
Taiwan's Air Force already has air-launched Block II AGM-84L Harpoons
The Air Force also has older air-launched AGM-84 variants.
The Kee Lung class destroyers & Chi Yang class frigates, ex-U.S. Navy Kidd & Knox class ships, respectively, both have the ability to fire older RGM-84 variants.
Chang did say why they want to acquire the ground-launched Harpoons, despite having land-based versions of domestic Hsiung Feng II & III anti-ship missiles. The Harpoons offer greater mobility.
