1/ THREAD: Becoming a Published Author in a Pandemic
I published my first academic paper in the American Chemical Society Chemical Neuroscience (what?!) called “Heralding Healthcare Professionals: Recognition of Neurological Deficits in COVID-19” with the incredible @AMannanBaig!
2/ The full text will be available as open access in a few days, but here's the link to the ACS abstract: pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

3/ I always imagined that my first publication would be in maternal or women's health as they are my main clinical passions. My new position @MountAuburnHosp was supposed to start in March but then the #pandemic happened and everything changed @plrosen
#mamasmatter #gynfluencer
4/ I thought about all the things I couldn’t control, like:
#Trump and Congress
•Access to #PPE
•Equitable distribution of scarce resources
•Ventilator production
•PPE production
•Patients and HCW dying
•Speed a vaccine can be produced and safely tested
5/
•      Pre-existing health disparities
• Pre-existing broken healthcare system
•      Testing creation and expansion
• Ability to run large scale drug RCT

Not going to lie, this list was extensive and overwhelming

#COVID #Trump #coronavirus #SARSCoV2
6/ BUT, then, I thought about the things I could control:

•I can ensure the #safety and #security of my #family

•I can #stayhome, socially distance and protect other vulnerable populations

•I can THINK 🧠✍️
7/ I feel so GRATEFUL and INDEBTED to my professors, teachers, mentors, colleagues, and patients that supported me to keep asking hard questions.

I am also so APPRECIATIVE of this online @Twitter #academictwitter #medtwitter #nursetwitter @epitwitter community.
📖📑📚📒👩‍🏫
8/ You may not know this about me, but my undergraduate degree is actually in business management from @BU_Tweets.

I had the fantastic opportunity to stay for a 5th year to participate on the track team and got my #EMT certification and took a #women’s health course.
9/ I had previously planned on enrolling in the @PeaceCorps and was accepted to a program in #SubSaharanAfrica, which didn't happen.

But this extra year at BU, and these teachers/courses inspired me to pursue a career in #medicine and #nursing with focusing on caring for women
10/ I enrolled in the direct entry program @BostonCollege  (RN in 1 year, NP in 1 year).  The shortest program in the country (pure insanity).

I completed a year-long internship in @BIDMC_ObGyn, received my MSN, passed my WHNP boards, and then got my MA licensure.  A whirlwind!
11/ Truthfully, I don’t know if I could or would do it again now.

Oh and I got married to @CoachGSanders the weekend before my program started...

👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️💍 #nowthatslove
12/ A preceptor once told me that I was building a #nursing education “foundation on sand” by doing an accelerated program.

But I passed all the same tests and took all the same classes.

The ferocity and rigor to learn is just my style.  It's definitely not for everyone.
13/ I also have an obsessive attention to detail and impressive capacity to synthesize data and extract patterns.

I personally had no desire to work inpatient or at the bedside.

Nurses are AMAZING, but working as an outpatient NP comprises a completely separate skill set.
14/ I participated in international nursing work with an outreach project in the Dominican Republic focusing on #maternalhealth. I then worked as a RN in OB/GYN, as well as #infertility (a fascinating field if you love endocrinology, but also very emotionally draining). 💉🩸👩‍⚕️
15/ My first #NP job was at an amazing small, private, 2 clinician #GYN practice in Brookline, MA where I worked for 2 years. I started my career in #academicmedicine as a nurse practitioner @Stanford in May 2016. @ccardyDNP
16/ I learned a RIDICULOUS amount of knowledge in a very short time in both the 2 years I spent in women’s cancer (breast medical oncology) with @AllisonKurian @GeorgeSledge51 @caswell_jin #shrutisheth #markpegram

#ASCO2020 @SusanGKomen @BreastCancerNow
18/ I hope that this paper is the first of many in my career. I love teaching AND clinical research AND taking care of patients. In addition to neurotropic potential, I am also interested in how #SARSCOV2 and #COVID19 impact pregnant women, their babies, and the #placenta.🤰
19/ I am *MOST EXCITED* for my next paper with @AMannanBaig.  This one is my baby, a true labor of love.

We were informed of our acceptance this week by the Journal of Medical Virology and I cannot wait to share it with all of you!  @JAMANeuro @lancetneurology @NeurologyToday
