The names of the countries the US has currently invaded may change (Vietnam -> Afghanistan). The alliances with apartheid regimes may have changed (South Africa -> Israel). But the brutality, corruption, and inequality hasn't changed very much at all in 50 years. Powerful essay.
This reminded me of Angela Davis' key premise in Freedom Is A Constant Struggle: That these struggles are interconnected. What's going on in Palestine is connected to what's going on in Hong Kong is connected to what's going on in Minneapolis. indiebound.org/book/978160846…
Again, this original essay was from 1967. See if you can spot any similarities to today's tactics. Warrior cops. Suppression of the press. Making an example.
From 2001 to 2015, military spending rose 50% in the US. And it's been rising ever since. More weapons, more bombs, more soldiers, longer invasions, continued occupations. American is exceptionally brutal, corrupt, and unjust, but look at them guns! nationalpriorities.org/campaigns/how-…
