Built in 1913, the gorgeous and mostly wooden Rokkaen (old Moroto Seiroku residence), by British architect Josiah Conder (1852-1920), Mie Prefecture, Western Japan. Half of it is fully western, the other half fully Japanese and very elegantly combined.
The original design had a three story tower (with rounded window glass!), but the owner changed his mind half way through construction and asked for an extra floor to get a better view of the nearby cherry tree lined river which explains its (slightly unbalanced) eccentric looks.
Today it is a popular place for photo shoots, as a location for historic films and TV dramas, and of course, weddings, parties, ceremonies etc.
The Japanese wing interiors and exteriors are absolutely perfect both. You can tell the local craftsmen struggled a little bit more with getting the European wing right though.
