Thread: A lot of people are asking me where to give $ in this moment (I direct criminal justice giving at Open Philanthropy). I've compiled a list of recs for police accountability, including shrinking their budgets; decarceration; and transforming systems. /1

The Movement for Black Lives is a coalition of over 100 groups with a national leadership team of experienced organizers and leaders. They are regranting dollars to groups around the country. secure.actblue.com/donate/movemen… /3

The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls organizes and trains women around the country to take leadership in their communities and eliminate excessive criminal justice system interventions.  nationalcouncil.us/donation /6

The Fund for Black Newspapers is raising and distributing money to historic black newspapers that are often the only trusted source of news for black readers. localmedia.org/journalism-fun… /8
.@RealJusticePAC runs smart campaigns to elect good DAs (aka prosecutors). You want police indicted? You need a good DA. You want to drop protestor charges and and stop the poverty to prison system? You need a good DA! Check out @chesaboudin. realjusticepac.org /9
.@citizenactionny is a grassroots organizing group with strength in upstate NY that’s fighting like hell to elect a reform DA in Albany (Matt Toporowski). secure.actblue.com/donate/standup… /10
.@MILiberation is a grassroots organizing group organizing in Detroit to end mass incarceration. They are fighting to elect Victoria Harris, an outstanding candidate for DA in Detroit. secure.actblue.com/donate/miliber… /11
.@JusticeLANow is a coalition of groups in Los Angeles that just won a big oversight measure and won the cancellation of a multi-billion dollar jail contract. They’re now fighting to reduce the multi-billion dollar police budget. justicelanow.org /12

Bail funds matter, but are getting a lot of money now. Here’s a good resource to find them in the future:
Equity and Transformation organizes informal economy Black workers in Chicago, with a focus on formerly incarcerated people. They do strong violence interruption work too, and are very much in motion now. eatchicago.org
Mutual Aid and Restorative Justice is connecting people to support each other through COVID and through the intense emotional challenges of this time with a focus on people impacted by violence, trauma, and incarceration. mutualaidrestorativejustice.org
The Texas Organizing Project is a powerful membership organization in Texas that, among other things, advocates to cut bloated law enforcement budgets and holds prosecutors accountable. @TXOrgProject
