In honor of the annual #GreenLegacy in Ethiopia on Friday let's not forget the OG Emperor Haile Selassie was planting trees from time & modernized the agriculture industry by creating ties with Oklahoma State University.

Emperor Haile Selassie recruited professors from OSU to modernize the agriculture industry in Ethiopia.
In 1956 HS opened the Alemaya University of Agriculture (now known as Haramaya University) where OSU professors would instruct young Ethiopians in modern agriculture. 2/3
Before HS modernized agriculture in Ethiopia, coffee grew wild & unharnessed. Today 42% of Ethiopia's economy is agriculture-based, Coffee is our #1 export, & 27,000 students attend Haramaya University where they learn how to grow cash crops!
We pay homage to OSU & the Emperor👑

I read an essay about Marxist-Leninist ideologies in Ethiopia during the Student Movements of the 60s & 70s.
It stated that western education introduced by the Emperor radicalized Ethiopian youth, who developed an elitist mentality that looked down on traditional ideals.
The students in Ethiopia at the time believed the Marxist-Leninist ideals had deep humanitarian goals & they had unmatched moral authority, which the author argues turned them into 'semi-gods' who could not be held accountable for any measures they take to achieve their goals.
This movement was hijacked by the Derg who overthrew the monarchy, and claimed that they had the historic mission of leading the country towards socialism.
The irony is Mengistu Haile Mariam who was not a highly educated 'elite' emerged as the leader of the Derg.
I worked in a refugee camp there in 2012 & visited the Genocide Memorial museum. The children's section broke me.
Ethiopia is on the same path. 160+ Amhara have been massacred this month & many of the victims were small children.
The Rwandans no longer have ethnicity on their identity cards & are quite open about the genocide that rocked their nation in an effort to never repeat those horrible events again.
The theme in the country when I went was Reconciliation.
I could sense a great evil had taken place in that land. I could see the trauma on their faces.
I visited the Milles Collines the Infamous Hotel Rwanda.
I visited churches where people were butchered....the walls were still red with blood.
In 517 Negus Kaleb, emperor of Axum sent an expedition to Yemen against the Jewish Himyarite King who massacred the Christian community living in Nagran.
The King was defeated and Western Yemen became a part of the Ethiopian Empire.
After King Dhu Nuwas was killed in battle, an Aksumite general named Abraha took power & declared himself an independent King of Himyar.
Abraha declared himself a master of both Himyar & Saba, and built a notable cathedral at Sanaa as a center of Christian pilgrimage.
Abraha led an army of 10,000 warriors with hundreds of elephants to crush the Yemeni army.
King Abraha, a zealous a Christian protected the Christian subjects in his land until his death.
King Abraha was succeeded by his 2 sons Yaksum & Yasruq born of a Yemeni noble woman.
Don't you ever think we forgot or will ever forget the atrocities committed by TPLF. We still demand justice for the Genocide committed against Somalis in Ogaden, Amharas in Wolkait, the Anuak in Gambela, and the countless lives devastated by their regime.
We haven't forgotten the massacres committed by TPLF when they lost the election in 2005 killing 193 protesters in Addis Ababa.
We haven't forgotten 2016 when 50 students were killed in one day in Bahir Dar for protesting against the brutality of the regime.
A thread on the Oromo confrontation & integration into the Ethiopian Empire:
Under the Lubaship of Robalé, (1570-80) the Oromo invaded core provinces devastating Shewa & Gojjam.
Emperor Sarsa Dengel in response led expeditions against their invasion in Waj and Dambeya.
The military prowess of the Oromo was enhanced when they adopted the riding of horses & body-length shields under the Lubaship of Birmaje (1578-86).
This enabled them to attack the Mayas of Eastern Shewa who used poison arrows but could not withstand the Oromo horsemen.
By the Lubaship of Mul'ata the Oromo occupied much of Shewa and Damot (present day Wollega).
Emperor Iyasu I led major expeditions to reclaim lost territory in occupied Gojjam & Bagemeder. The inhabitants either accepted his rule, or "disappeared like smoke before the wind."
It's a new year & there is a zero- tolerance policy towards anyone disrespecting Ethiopia & threatening to destroy our nation.
Our ancestors did not shed their blood, and sacrifice their lives for us to be passive about defending our country & people today.
During the battle of Adwa when one Ethiopian fell, others would take their place with a courage that forced the Italian commander Baratieri to say they "despised death."
Our army was so vast and united, and our people were ready to die to protect our home. They did that for us.
During the 2nd Ethio-Italian War when the Fascists bombed Adwa killing women & children, Ethiopian warriors mobilized from Shewa to avenge their people.
One warrior approached Haile Selassie & told him, "I have a boy. If I am killed, call him to the army."
