New Observatory of Economic of Complexity!!!
(oec.world).
We rebuilt the OEC from scratch with dozens of new datasets & features (Thread).
1. Let's start with ECI rankings.
The 2018 rankings show the rise of Asia, with Japan, Taiwan, Korea, & Singapore in the top 6

For the first time, we also provide ECI rankings using a number of different datasets and revisions (eg HS92, HS96, etc.), and provide the opportunity for users to build rankings dynamically using the custom rankings tool: pro.oec.world/en/rankings/cu…

2. We introduce a number of new profiles (now called reports). Not only we have profiles for countries, and products, but for pairs of countries (e.g. US-China), subnational regions (e.g. Hubei, Quebec, Tokyo), & Country-Products.

3. We now source data from customs offices. This gives us data that is much more recent (e.g. March, April 2020) & with finer spatial resolution (requires registering to the site)

4. This also allows us to provide information on Economic Complexity at the subnational level.

5. We have "on the fly" adjustable forecast tools for trade time series using an LSTM model (fitting custom time series requires user registration).

6. We now include tariff data unpacked for every country, product, and destination (in profiles and through a tariff explorer).

7. We have dozens of new visualizations comparing countries in terms of markets, products, and complexity

8. A library section, with links to papers using economic complexity concepts organized by country and topics:

9. A rebuilt vizbuilder allowing users to slice and dice data in multiple ways, including subnational trade data
