New @nytimes reporting shows widespread difficulties in collecting coronavirus data.

We asked FEMA and HHS for a spreadsheet reportedly used to track the utilization of hospital beds, ICUs, and ventilators. Neither agency had the records.

HHS told us that FEMA was maintaining the list. Then FEMA said it also had no such records.

This is the response we received from the HHS: “The records you seek fall under the purview of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.”

This is the response we got from FEMA, specifically from the National Response Coordination Center and the Office of Response and Recovery. It was “unable to locate or identify any responsive records.”

This is especially puzzling because FEMA previously posted an HHS letter on their website describing the data that entities are supposed to be adding to this collection effort.

Last month, President Trump fired State Department Inspector General Steve Linick after Secretary Mike Pompeo pushed for the firing.

Linick’s congressional testimony on Wednesday raises further concerns about Pompeo’s conduct.

In closed-door testimony before the House Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees, Linick reportedly said that he told top Pompeo aides he was reviewing how the secretary and his wife used government resources.

DOJ continues to use law enforcement agencies to do Trump’s bidding.

DEA is now being run by Timothy Shea, who requested this authority. Shea was previously the acting US Attorney for DC and oversaw the moves to drop charges against Michael Flynn and recommend a light sentence for Roger Stone.

Let’s be very clear about what this is: President Trump once again trying to bully federal prosecutors into targeting his political adversaries rather than upholding the law.
In 2017, then Attorney General Jeff Sessions bowed to political pressure from Trump and appointed Huber to investigate matters relating to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. americanoversight.org/sessions-letter
