jc is okay with the boys going out as long as they tell them where they will be and when they'll be home (he knows they're gonna try to sneak out anyway bc he's done it too) but lwj is way overprotective and they know it'll be a NO so why bother asking him in the first place?? +
when the boys think zhan.cheng are being unfair, lwj doesn't feel the need to explain his decisions as the parent/guardian. maybe he doesn't know how to voice his concerns. jc is the same in a way but he eventually just says it like it is: the world can be a dark place and +
sometimes it isn't kind to children. and it's hard for jc & lwj to explain that without giving away too much of their own pain from what they've been thru in the past. they struggle with trying not to pass on their generational trauma while wanting the best for these kids.
