Communities have different histories. REMEMBER AND HONOR THOSE HISTORIES. DO NOT ERASE THEM.

But often, those who oppress use the same tools to do so no matter our histories, identities, or cultures. We are seeing evidence of this constantly now, here's a few examples.
1/
Border Patrol drones used to monitor protest: a drone flew over Minneapolis Friday "to provide live video to aid in situational awareness at the request of our federal law enforcement partners." businessinsider.com/cbp-flew-a-pre… 2/
Border Patrol troops deployed in DC: "These ‘protests’ have devolved into chaos & acts of domestic terrorism by groups of radicals & agitators, [Border Patrol] is answering the call and will work to keep DC safe.”thehill.com/policy/nationa…
DEA can secretly surveil protests: "DEA requests that it be designated to enforce any federal crime committed as a result of protests over the death of George Floyd"

Regarding infiltration, sowing distrust within communities is a functional way to disempower them in its own right. This was devastating to the Muslim community post 9.11. Remember "mosque crawlers" (ugh) ap.org/ap-in-the-news… 5/
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has also been deployed in response to protests. 6/

We must respect our complex histories. But those who oppress us thrive in erasing these differences and using the same resources to suppress folks of a range of backgrounds. Agencies used to combat drugs are now infiltrating marches to collect "intelligence," agencies that... 7/
...agencies designed to arrest and remove undocumented folks will be suppressing Black led protests on behalf of their colleagues in blue. Drones used to monitor an international border are assessing the size of the crowd for national guard. 8/
Collaboration can both honor differences WHILE recognizing that rhetoric that makes these differences invisible ("national security," "drug trafficking," "riots") is a key strategy to efficiently use government mechanisms of oppression across all of our communities. 9/
Actually, also read @karl_jacoby with a similarly themed thread focused on the expansion of the US border through the interior of the US.
