I must be dumb. I don't understand how publishing an op-ed calling for the government to bring in the military to help stop riots puts black @nytimes employees in danger.

@nytimes First of all...it is an op-ed. It isn't an actual decision. Bringing up the topic for discussion isn't endangering anyone, is it? 2/
@nytimes Secondly, even if the government would bring in the Army, the Army has much more discipline - and a higher percentage of black officers - than police departments. I would think that it could only help. Most police outrages are from lack of discipline. 3/
@nytimes Thirdly, as @OptimisticCon told me on my last EoZTV, whenever the National Guard or (rarely) US Army comes in, it is to helpout with logistics like putting up barriers. They don't deal directly with the people. They free up the police to do their jobs more effectively. 4/
