Some brief highlights from JJF’s talk 💫
Jennifer Freyd: “It’s a particularly painful moment for our country, where I would say betrayal that has been long present—but also long denied—is coming out in the open.” @jjfreydcourage

Jennifer Freyd: “When we better understand the systems that perpetuate abuse of vulnerable people, we can be in a much stronger position to combat those systems.” @jjfreydcourage

Jennifer Freyd: “Across all types of oppression, which includes racism, sexual violence, and their intersections, to paraphrase Desmond Tutu, it is time to go upstream and find out why people are falling in.” @jjfreydcourage

Jennifer Freyd: “My work as a researcher is fueled by a desire to understand systems of oppression, especially systems creating and contributing to sexual violence, precisely so we can dismantle those systems.” @jjfreydcourage

Dr. Jennifer Freyd gave an hour-long talk in five chapters. These are the themes of her ~30-year journey a scholar and an activist. She described these chapters as elements in systems of oppression that can be dismantled through education and activism. @jjfreydcourage

Please see the end of this thread for research on topics 1-4. Here, we amplify Dr. Jennifer Freyd’s message of hope about Institutional Courage.
Jennifer Freyd: ”Truly, it takes courage to push up against institutional resistance and create that change.” @jjfreydcourage

Jennifer Freyd: “But this is something we should be able to fix. And if we fix it, it’s going to be better for individuals, it’s going to be better for institutions. While it won’t solve everything, it’s a crucial step in the right direction.” @jjfreydcourage

Thanks to @jjfreydcourage for sharing her teaching with the world. If you liked this thread, please share it! And please add your name to our Call to Courage. Together, we can dismantle these systems of betrayal and create a more courageous world. institutionalcourage.org/join-us
