3. Pompeo mentions US street violence 3 times, in line w/ Trump's messaging. He talks about church burning, "looting and violence," & "reckless rioting." By contrast, he nods to "peaceful protests" in US once. @AmbDana says diplomats can embrace the peaceful protests as models.
4. Some Americans have asked about the purpose of Pompeo’s statement. Authoritarian governments always engage in this kind of propaganda, and China’s track record is obvious. Why spend 8 paragraphs on this? What should a top US official be saying during these crises in America?
