The sun shone bright and happy to everyone. He was their hero, the one who made their crops grow, giving them food.

He was the light that kept them alive and awake. ImageImage
• 02

One day, the Sun was joyfully watching the people below when he saw a beautiful maiden walk out of a wooden house.

She was pale, and it seemed to the Sun that she looked like a ghost, almost dead. Her body looked fragile and the Sun became weary if she can be alright. ImageImage
• 03

But the Sun was shocked to see her smile whenever she passed anyone from the village.

She giggled as the kids played with her black hair and grinned when an old lady gave her an apple.

The Sun didn't understand how a person could glow when her body shouted otherwise. Image
• 04

Days passed and the Sun’s curiosity about the girl grew.

Watching her everyday became a routine, a habit that you would have a hard time getting out.

He was happy, seeing her happy, not knowing that a certain thing started to grow inside him. Image
• 05

A day came when the girl didn’t go out of her house. The Sun felt sad for not seeing her. He didn’t get the chance to peek so he waited and wished that the girl would come out the next day. Image
• 06

Days turned to weeks, the girl still did not go out of the wooden house. As much as he wanted to go down and see, he can't for his warmth is too much.

Worried and anxious, the Sun tried to learn what happened to the girl.
He asked his friends, the Wind and Trees to know. ImageImage
• 07

The trees bowed sadly, while the wind turned cold. It confused the Sun. More worried, he asked them again what happened.

The trees waved right and left, as if shaking their heads, but the wind flew close to him and whispered,

“She is dead.” Image
• 08

The Sun was shocked, and scared, and hurt. He became crestfallen about the news, trying to deny that he won't see her beauty again.

The girl was sick, that explained her pale skin and fragile body, but even in her dark days she stays positive, the wind says. Image
• 09

Her positivity radiates throughout the village and everyone adored her, she is light they say. A breathe of fresh air to those around her. She never thought twice about helping anyone, the trees added.

With hearing these things, the Sun came up with an idea. Image
• 10

He would revive the girl, not as a human, but a guide like him. A beautiful soul like hers is more than qualified to watch over the humans.

As long as she'll breathe again, he’d willingly share the skies with her.

That way, she can be alive and he can be with her. ImageImage
• 11

The Wind and Trees grew worried about the Sun’s plan, saying that it is impossible, or rather, forbidden to revive someone that is already dead.

But the Sun did not listen, and he went down to her home.

He saw her lying on the bed, eyes closed. Image
• 12

As the Sun walked towards her, his flames started scattering all over the place. Fearing that he might burn her house, he lifted her up and brought her outside.

The trees bowed to see what will happen while the wind swirled around the place, both nervous. Image
• 13

The Sun knelt down and gently put down the dead girl at the field of flowers.

He lifted his head up when he heard a growl coming from the sky.

Lightning started to appear and the Sun knew he didn’t have much time. Image
• 14

The Wind flew close to the Sun and whispered, they are getting angry, but he only shook his head.

He clearly wanted to revive his beautiful girl and so, without any hesitations, he pulled out half of his light off his chest and quickly pressed it down hers. Image
• 15

The sky roared as the girl opened her eyes with light coming out of it. She breathed deeply before closing her eyes again. The Sun stared and waited,

Waiting for her to open her eyes.

A few seconds passed, nothing happened, the Sun thought that maybe his plan failed. Image
• 16

That maybe, a human body cannot possibly handle the power that a guide has. That it was too much.

The Sun felt something foreign within him. His chest felt heavy, while his eyes became watery.

Bowing his head and closing his eyes, he mumbled “I failed”. Image
• 17

That is why he was shocked when he felt cold hands hold his face. He turned to the beautiful girl looking at him, smiling. The sun didn't know what or how to react.

The girl sat up and faced him properly, but before she could even say anything the skies roared once more. Image

“You have defied a very sacred rule, Sun.” it spoke in deep voice, as if coming below the ground. The Earth moved with each word that was said.

With a voice stern and full of authority, it continued, “The Skies need not of another guide. One light is enough.” Image
• 19

"That is for the people's sake! What about me? I also need light.” He countered, standing up.

“She is the light I’ve always longed for, the light that can give hope at the darkest of days."

"I may shine, but she glows.” The Sun stated as he looked directly at her eyes. Image
• 20

Again, the sky growled, “The sky is enough for one. How can you let her live then?” venoms of sarcasm dripped through each word, but the Sun could only smile.

He looked at his beautiful girl, eyes full of worry but still shine and knew then, that he'd do anything for her. Image
• 21

Shining more brightly, he pulled her up. The Sun gently held the girl's hands.

“I’d die every day to give her time. I’d sacrifice a certain part of me to let her breath.”

Everyone who saw knew that nothing could change the Sun’s mind, for no regret was found in his eyes. Image
• 22

A strong gush of wind came, as if a sign of sighing. With a defeated voice the sky answered, “She can live then, but…” The two turned their gazes upward when they heard the voice.

“You know what consequence you’ll have to face, Sun” Image
• 23

The girl worriedly looked at the Sun, but his eyes remained at the sky. “I know.”

“The Sun will give light to day, while the girl will be called as the moon, giving glow to darkness; the night.” The sky explained that made the Sun hold the Moon’s hands tighter. Image
• 24

"You, Sun, would have to seize your light each night to let her breath.” Image
• 25

The Moon’s eyes widened, “Then he has to die each night?” she exclaimed but he pulled her close.

“It’s okay. I would sacrifice anything for my beautiful girl.” His hands held her tighter, as if never wanting to let go. But he knew that he won’t hold her much long anymore. Image
• 26

“This will be the consequence for the sacred rule that you defied. Your punishment for something that no one should control. Life isn’t something that you should play around, Sun.” the Sky reminded.

“Which is why, after you seize your light, only then can she glow.” ImageImage
• 27

The Sun quickly nodded, without any doubts. When the Moon was about to shake her head and protest, they heard a growl and knew, that the voice was already gone.

The Moon’s heart ached. He’d die, every night, just to let her live again.

Why must this be so cruel? Image
• 28

As their eyes fell back to each other, their bodies gave of different kinds of lights. Image
• 29

The Sun became warm and daunting.

His lights were fearless, passing through everything.

He shined red, yellow and gold. ImageImage
• 30

The Moon became cold and quiet.

Her lights were gentle, soft, like a mother’s touch to her child.

She glowed blue, white and silver. ImageImage
• 31

Their lights were polar opposites, but one thing is the same; their feelings for one another.

“So, this is goodbye?” the Moon asked, turning to the man beside her.

The Sun smiled and shook his head, as he tucked her hair he answered, “We will meet again, in time.” Image
• 32

The wind slowly wrapped around their bodies, pulling them apart. The two desperately grabbed for each other’s hands, as they continuously whispered,

“Don’t let go.”

But, their hands slipped from one another and the wind pulled them to the opposite sides of the world. Image
• 33

Covered by the wind, the Moon felt something comforting that it made her sleepy. What was happening? She didn't know, but her eyelids were really heavy.

As she closed her eyes, she saw bright red, yellow and gold.

She knew, it was her Sun. Image
• 34

The Sun stood high and mighty above the ground. He gave the light everyone needed. It was the same as before.

But then, after a few hours, he felt pain in his chest. When he turned to his right, he saw something different.

Darkness started to swallow the lands. Image
• 35

It scared him but he saw a beautiful girl in white robes running. He held out his hand, but before she could even reach him, his eyes gave up.

The Moon saw how the Sun fell & turn to dust. She saw how his lights disappeared and was changed to the darkness she brought in. Image
• 36

This was the consequence the Sky was talking about. She is revived after he dies. She can only breath once his stops.

Pity, but if it is what it takes to see him each night, even for just a second, it would be fine. Image
• 37

The two only saw each other for a moment. Almost seeing one another, only a few seconds apart.

They did this every day and waited and wished for their time with each other to be longer. Seconds turned to days. Days turned to years, but they never met properly. Image
• 38

The only time when they can see each other, is also the time when the Sun is dying. They never met before the Moon could sleep as morning sips through.

But even when this is what's happening, the two were surprisingly both hurt and happy. Image
• 39

They hurt because of the repeated cycles of almost, but happy because at least they can look into each other’s eyes.

It was enough for them. Image
• 40

Yes, it pained the Sun to let his Moon see him before he seizes his light, but he was happy to at least find her eyes looking at his. Image
• 41

Yes, it pained the Moon to always see the Sun die but she is happy because at least they know their love for one another will last forever. Image
• 42

The Gods took pity to the two and, so, they decided to let them meet. Once a year, they would let the Sun and Moon rule one sky.

An Eclipse, a chance for them to kiss. A moment where the Sun and Moon can be with each other. Image
