What's truly remarkable is that Postman is doing this with some 250 employees. Even if you come from the funding is not a mile marker school of thought, it has 10 mn devs and 500K+ cos using their product. This easily rivals top Silicon Valley Companies.
The company started as a side project by three founders in their twenties looking to scratch an itch in Bengaluru.
It is more proof that Indian products have started having world class impact. @FreshworksInc, @EkaSoftware and several others make this an undeniable multi billion dollar trend.
This is primarily because a few things have come together. 1) The customer buying journey is now mostly online and you can be in Chennai but close deals in Chicago as many of my colleagues prove every day.
2) Indian software product ecosystem has come of age. There are a number of high quality entrepreneurs with a keen sense of the market and the product that meets the market.
3) Talent: The talent was always there. Now they get to work on products and not waste away time on the bench waiting as employers tabulate billable hours.
4) True democratisation of software: SaaS has democratised software. And several founders in India are inspired by their surroundings to think a) Simple b) Scalable c) Affordable d) Self reliant and e) well crafted product. Indian democratic design, ftw (for the world).
As the world learns to live with the new normal, India needs to play to its strength if it is bring back back growth, generate wealth and employment. Building good software can be our strength. This is where every state needs to focus on.
