The Tories appear to have forgotten who's been in power the last 10 years (Grant Shapps especially). Time to remind them. Here are 40+ graphs showing the devastation wrought by a decade of Tory misrule.

1. Police numbers down 19,569 (14%) since 2009 peak.

2. Real wages (i.e. after inflation) haven't improved in a decade, and are back below the 2008 peak.

3. The waiting list for hospital treatment in England grew to a record high of 4.6 million. (Data from February 2020, i.e. before the coronavirus made things worse).

4. In the NHS in England, the percentage of patients having to wait 4+ hours for A&E reached a record high in December 2019. (Data from February 2020, i.e. before the coronavirus made things worse.)

5. In the NHS in England, waiting times for the results of diagnostic tests are at the highest since 2008. Over 4% of patients have to wait 6+ weeks to get their results, vs 1% target. (Data from February 2020, i.e. before coronavirus made things worse.)

6. The 2-week waiting time target for GP cancer referrals has not been met since February 2019, and performance has declined consistently for many years, as it also has for the 62-day target for starting cancer treatment. (Feb 2020 data.)

10. Council tax has risen in England by over 3% every year for the last 5 years. (Remember, real wages haven't improved since the 2008 downturn.)

11. Planning changes have allowed authorities to eat into the Green Belt. In total, 13,200 hectares of Green Belt land has been lost since 2010. That's nearly 51 square miles! (You could argue we needed to do so to build more houses. But it's still a lot.)

12. The % of children in relative poverty (before housing costs) who live in working families has steadily increased. In other words, many of the poor are staying poor even though more are working.

13. Racial and religious hate crime is up sharply in England and Wales. Note the spike immediately after the referendum, which caused a step change in the volume of crimes. And it's now on the rise again.

14. The number of new builds in England completed each year has yet to catch up to the 2008 peak after a decade of stagnation. This, despite an ever-present urgent need for more housing.
