Fun facts: Churchill enabled a genocide in India and after signing the Atlantic Charter, which promised freedom for the people and denounced fascism, he had to assure his fellow elites he didn't mean the British Empire would stop oppressing people or actually support democracy.
Just because someone led a country through a crisis and provided some amazing copy for newspapers and quotations for the history books doesn't mean they weren't racist or capable of great cruelties.
America's partnership with England in the Second World War has meant we've had to carry water for what England and Churchill did, the suffering they caused, but if we're going to get any better we have to stop it with these messiahs and men made into myth.
The reason we're in this mess we're in is because we've been lost in fictions and myths.

We don't understand where we've been because this country's foundations are built on illusions. We have to sort through the facts and fictions and find reality before it's too late.
You can laud Churchill for his leadership during the war. You can admire his personality all you want.

But make no mistake. Churchill engaged in rampant racism and hurt many, many, many people. The British Empire was one of the originators of fascism.

End. Stop.
If you really, really want a better world, if you really, really want to reckon with this nation's sins, you're going to have to learn to recognize the ugliness in even the most beloved figures and revered moments.

None of this is easy. None of this is simple.
