I decided to engage someone who messaged me on IG, which I rarely do. She told me I’m wrong for thinking defunding the police would end badly, and I was curious to hear why. What she told me was as silly as you might expect.
In summary: people commit crimes out of an “unmet need.” If people had access to “certain social services that prevent crime,” there wouldn’t be any criminals. I asked her what kind of services? No response. I asked her what she would do if someone tried to assault her.
She said not the police, because the police are also sexist. I asked for data, and she responded by saying it is my “internal misogyny” that makes me think women can’t defend themselves against men who try to assault them...Oh. I asked if she’s pro gun ownership. Wild guess?
Nope! So I clarified that her position is that we shouldn’t have police, people shouldn’t own guns, and we should just hope for the best? What about children? What about the disabled? What about people who need protection?
She did not answer my questions. She said that I am too far gone and that she hopes I learn more about leftist ideas because “you’re gonna need them.” (She used the wrong you’re but I’m being nice). Welp! That’s it, guys. Very good arguments all around.
