Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigades (QATB) were throughout the state. Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) 1 July 1991 amalgamation of 96 QATBs
Many had rail ambulances.

The rail ambulances were used because roads poor & often impassable. Railway employees would volunteer to operate to ensure safe working. Most converted road vehicles or rail trolleys.
