3 years ago I remember watching Rubin Report interviews about where our politics was going wrong. As my thinking evolved, I became more and more isolated in the super woke comedy industry I was part of. /Thread
I was starting to lose bookings for saying things like "maybe obesity IS bad for your health" or "maybe we should go back to MLK's idea of judging people on how they behave, not what they look like".
Day by day, as I became clearer and more honest about what I thought, I became more and more "problematic". Naively, I thought "Being clear about what you think is good. Now we can discuss and debate and all learn something from each other!" Honestly, I was that stupid.
As time went on, I realised that we no longer do debate and discussion. We now have the right opinion and the wrong opinion. I was stuck and I was lost.
Then came the Cathy Newman interview with Jordan Peterson. It was a life-changing moment. I realised that the media no longer reported objectively on events. They had an agenda. And their agenda was to embrace the forces that were intent on tearing down the Western World.
Someone had to bring back the conversation and as Rogan and Rubin had shown before, who better than a stand-up comedian? That's when I approached @francisjfoster and we started @triggerpod together. Now, just 2 years on we do it full time thanks to our fans and supporters.
And yesterday, one small circle was completed when we had @RubinReport on our show. I won't give away too much as our interview comes out tomorrow but let's just say it was inspirational. If you feel stuck and lost, don't give up and don't give in. Look for inspiration./End

The "Why You Were Wrong About Ukraine and Will Be Again" Megathread

“There will be no invasion,” they said. “Putin is just sabre-rattling,” they told you. “It’s just Biden trying to escalate the situation so he can look good by defusing it,” they explained.
Anti-establishment voices on both Left and Right - voices of reason - urged us to be careful. They argued, often convincingly, that Russia must not be provoked, that concessions must be made to secure peace.
And you believed them.
You believed them for the same reasons I would have believed them.
You believed them because the establishment voices keep lying to you.

Putin has just recognised "breakaway republics" in Eastern Ukraine (i.e. parts of Ukraine his forces invaded in 2014) and said "Ukraine has no history of being a nation".

Will the useful idiots in the West now understand what's happening and stop appeasement? Probably not.
For useful idiots with broken brains who understand nothing about the region and regurgitate lies about "the people are all Russian, they want to be part of Russia" who have never set foot in Russia or Ukraine, don't speak the language or know any history, read the replies.
BTW, one sleight of mouth you see useful idiots using is the idea that anyone who thinks Russia shouldn't be allowed to invade other countries thinks we must immediately start WW3. That's why they say stupid things like "you go and fight" as if anyone suggested we go to war🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I see lots of people talking about how people aren't having enough children. Very few seem to understand the real reason. And very few of the ones that do are willing to be honest about it:
If you demonise women who prioritise children over careers and brainwash the rest into thinking that being a wage slave is superior to raising your own children, this is what you get.
The laudable of idea of ensuring women could work and be treated equally ended up with women being forced to work. When you double the supply of labour, you halve the price of labour and before you know it both parents must work to survive.

I keep writing tweets about Russia and Ukraine and deleting them.

I genuinely understand why people abhor Western foreign policy after Iraq, Syria, Libya etc.

But I also wish people who have no understanding of Russia, Ukraine, history and geopolitics would be quiet right now.
The Ukraine crisis is a big problem for Ukraine, obviously, but it is a symptom of a much bigger problem for the West.

The West is weak, distracted and naive beyond belief. Unable to define, let alone defend, our values at home, how can we hope to project them abroad?
This is why China is expanding into South China Sea, suppressing Hong Kong protests and is belligerent on Taiwan.

Aggressive, expansionist regimes like Russia and China only care about one thing: strength.

Appeasement doesn't work with people who see it as weakness.

One of the strongest pulls of our social media echo chambers is dehumanising people with whom we disagree. Every time I tweet something moderate, extremists on either side demand I give no quarter to anyone who disagrees with them.

No. I refuse to dehumanise people, no matter...
... how much I disagree with them.

Some people were so scared of the virus they demanded excessive restrictions, scapegoated the unvaccinated and did a lot of harm. I think they're wrong but I will not dehumanise them.

Some people are so scared that there is a conspiracy...
...to <insert your favourite here> they refuse to listen to any data or facts which show the vaccine reduces your risk of being seriously ill, they spread misinformation and do harm as well. I think they're wrong but I will not dehumanise them.

This is the battle of our time -

I am writing this thread about my own experience of getting COVID for a second time so I can link people to it when they inevitably ask how I know.

First time:
Me and a friend got COVID in Feb 2020. We got it from a guy who had just got off a plane from China. I had a very mild illness but I had every telltale symptom: dry cough, fever and loss of smell. No tests done as no tests were available.
Second time was last week. Me and the same friend. We've been in bed for a week. Fever, dry cough, this time I *completely* lost smell *and* taste. It also clearly has mental health effects (this is widely known COVID symptom).
