Votes are still being counted in Georgia (and likely will be for several days) but there are already some pretty striking statistics pointing towards the state being very much a toss-up in November.
At least 1.33 million people voted before Election Day. People of color accounted for 33.2% of those votes, a significant increase from the '16 primary benchmark of 28%.
In Fulton County, at least 164,332 Democratic ballots were cast (this number will increase as the straggler mail ballots are counted). In the 2016 presidential primary Dem turnout in Fulton was 117,551 votes. That's an increase in Dem turnout of almost 40%.
Statewide I expect a fair amount of votes to be added to the current count, but already we have 838,640 Dem ballots cast, already eclipsing the 2016 turnout of 765,366.
In the Dem primary in Georgia in '16 Dem turnout lagged behind the GOP by 530,000 votes. At this point in the count Dem turnout is actually 47,000 votes ahead of GOP turnout.
There will be a lot more to dig into here as the vote count is completed and the individual vote history is posted, but at this point we can very confidently say that Democrats in Georgia are highly motivated, putting the state very much in play in November.
We'll be releasing some Georgia poll results later today regarding voting safely during the pandemic (among other things), so stay tuned!
