1/ Those who defend the honor of confederate soldiers say that regardless of the cause for which they were sent to war (slavery and white supremacy according to their leaders), we should memorialize them bc after all, "they were Americans too." Here's why that's bullshit...
2/ Notice, we do NOT memorialize the 20k black folks who fought for England during the revolution (bc the crown was offering them freedom from bondage if the loyalists won). They were 'Americans' (not citizens by law but ya know what I mean) and outnumbered black 'patriots' 5:1..
3/ But we don't even learn about them, let alone build them statues the same way, and this, despite the fact that they were fighting for their freedom. The CSA solider fought for black bondage. The black loyalist fought for black liberty. Notice which one we prefer to honor.
