1/ Those who defend the honor of confederate soldiers say that regardless of the cause for which they were sent to war (slavery and white supremacy according to their leaders), we should memorialize them bc after all, "they were Americans too." Here's why that's bullshit...
2/ Notice, we do NOT memorialize the 20k black folks who fought for England during the revolution (bc the crown was offering them freedom from bondage if the loyalists won). They were 'Americans' (not citizens by law but ya know what I mean) and outnumbered black 'patriots' 5:1..
3/ But we don't even learn about them, let alone build them statues the same way, and this, despite the fact that they were fighting for their freedom. The CSA solider fought for black bondage. The black loyalist fought for black liberty. Notice which one we prefer to honor.

1/ Putting aside that most violence at the protests has been done by whites (& cops really), white folks have always been more bothered by violence in response to racism than the violence OF racism. A thought experiment can prove the point. It's a question I've asked many times..
2/ Ask yourself, white folks, what's your initial reaction when I say the following entirely inarguable thing:

Black folks held in bondage under enslavement had the ABSOLUTE moral right to kill their 'masters' in their sleep to get free.
3/ Does that bother you even a little? Do you hesitate even a second to agree? Or perhaps even disagree? Ok, now try it this way:

The women held by Ariel Castro for years had the absolute moral right to kill him in his sleep to get free. So too Elizabeth Smart with her captors..

If you would get married at a plantation home but would not get married at Dachau it is because you do not see black people as fully human
Remember, before someone says "but one was a death camp, and the other 'just' a forced labor colony," a) the slave system did result in mass death, and b) Dachau was NOT established as an extermination camp like Auschwitz etc. It's function was actually forced labor, so...
the analogy is apt. Obviously more people did die in Dachau than at any given plantation. But it's purpose was forced labor, as with those plantations. So comparing their functions is fair and asking why we see them differently is too...

So conservatives are accusing the left of hypocrisy bc anti-police violence protests violate social distancing, which we have said is important in other settings? Aw, so precious when right wingers think they're really making a point but aren't. So here's the thing...
First, anti-police violence protesters are almost all wearing masks and doing their best to prevent viral spread. Anti-lockdown protesters were almost all NOT masking bc they don't think the virus is real...or bc masking violates their notions of "real" manhood
Second, anti-police violence protesters are protesting, um, police violence. The right is protesting having to wear a mask at Costco, the fact that they can't go to a sit down restaurant or get their hair cut when they want to...One is sorta more important than the rest.
