Right now, there’s a universe I live in where friends my age keep getting horrifically sick from COVID-19 with potential long term complications, and another one where people seem to think it’s vanished or never existed, and I don’t know how to bridge that cognitive gap at all.
I’ve had my first few total culture clashes over the past couple weeks, and there’s no middle ground at all. People up in my face without masks on while I’m masked and thinking about my most at risk family locked away and the months I’ve spent totally alone to protect them.
It’s so rude and callous. My mask only offers the other person protection. It does little to nothing for me. They don’t even ask. There’s not a moment of consideration for the weeks I won’t be able to help my elderly family while I am forced to self isolate again.
Even if you haven’t personally been impacted by COVID-19, (that’s amazing!) can you please just try... not bring awful? This disease is insidious and has cost some of us so much.
(There is only one testing site in my area that allows tests without doctor-validated symptoms, and you have to get into line in the wee hours of the morning and hope they don’t run out of kits by the time you drive up. So I can’t just go get checked after you yoloed in my face.)
