Every year for the past five years we’ve collected data from games featured at E3 to provide a statistical breakdown of gender. We think of this as a ‘mini State of the Union’. With the cancelation of E3 we’re reassessing the best way to continue this tradition #PS5Reveal
You can take a look at last year’s data which continued the previous years’ trend of demonstrating that the overall percentage of games that center female characters is not getting any higher.

We wanted to share the data we captured from today’s #PS5Reveal

Breakdown of games:
FEMALE - 6
MALE - 10
MULTI OPTIONS - 7
GENDER AMBIGUOUS - 3

Breakdown of presenters:
MALE - 15
FEMALE - 1
Sony is only one company out of many that we collect data from so we cannot come to any final conclusions based on one show but while this percentage is not gender parity it does represent a significant improvement over the norm. #PS5Reveal
A reminder that these numbers do not represent any comment on the quality or interest of a particular game, nor do they represent intersectional representations such as race which we also think are important data points for understanding progress. #PS5Reveal
We are hoping to gather statistics from various independent pressers that have and will continue to come out this summer from publishers and developers to provide a wider analysis of games in 2020.
