Mark Zuckerberg & Priscilla Chan have responded to the 270+ scientists at the @ChanZuckerberg Initiative who called on Zuckerberg to curb misinformation.
Zuckerberg says he and Chan are "deeply shaken and disgusted by President Trump’s
divisive and incendiary rhetoric."
"And personally, like you, we are deeply shaken and disgusted by President Trump’s divisive and incendiary rhetoric at a time when our nation so desperately needs unity."
"Although CZI & Facebook are entirely separate and independent
organizations with different missions and teams, we do share the same co-leader. And in this moment, we understand that CZI’s relationship to Facebook is not an easy tension to bridge."
"These are not the decisions of
CZI as an organization, however. And nor will Facebook policies ever dictate how we at CZI approach our mission, work, or partnerships."
Here's what the scientists asked for.
And then here's what the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative responded with.
They're employees of CZI, where Zuckerberg is co-CEO. Pretty brave to speak out publicly.
Here is the official response form @JasonSynaptic, @deboramarks and @MartinUCSF, the CZI-backed scientists who have organized the letter to Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan.
"We reiterate that we are proud to be CZI awardees."
"However, we note that in their response, Mark signed as CEO of CZI but not of Facebook and so we have not received any official response from Facebook."
They just asked Zuckerberg to "consider stricter policies" on misinfo & race.
Zuckerberg, with his most recent announcement, can say he's doing that.
