/6 There has been much emphasis by States on what to do when there are COVID-19 outbreaks. More hospital/ICU beds, more ventilators, N-95 masks and decontamination, test/trace. These are ALL critical!!!!! But they generally focus ONLY on post-illness. (next)
/6 Efforts to actually prevent individuals from becoming ill have been far less rigid and, in many cases, irresponsibly lax. We need to focus on prevention with greater rigor than we have been, particularly with respect to indoor & transit exposures. (next)
/6 Masks should be MANDATORY in all indoor spaces other than home. P*E*R*I*O*D! The 6 ft. rule should be the 12 ft rule wherever possible, with building retrofits to force distancing. This would benefit from significant occupant density reduction in buildings. (next)
/6 A smart combination of increased ventilation (where possible) and improved filtration and mechanical system operation must be employed in buildings, understanding that not every building is the same in terms of operational capability. (next)
/6 And Federal, State, and County health officials must accept science & be more effective at articulating the role of aerosols and airborne transmission to the public. The public needs greater education from key information sources. (next)
/6 Along with critical post-illness efforts and "wash and clean", these preventative efforts will go a long way toward reducing population exposure, spread, illness, and death, while allowing counties to open there economies in a measured and smart way. #UseYourNogginAmerica
