My husband falls asleep in random places. We live a mile away from where #RayshardBrooks was killed by police. A thread on why I don't call police for non violent incidents. 1/
One night, I sent him out for ice cream at 11:45 (yes, I was pregnant). The store was 3 minutes away and closed at midnight. After 4 hours of calling him and getting no response, I left our 3 y.o. with my mom and called an uber so I could begin to look for my husband. 2/
I found him. Asleep in the store's parking lot SANS ICE CREAM. He never made it out the car. He parked and fell asleep.
I knocked on the car window and it scared him. He reacted... wildly...pure fight or flight mode... 3/
It took him several moments to regain composure and figure out where he was and who I was.

That moment reaffirmed my decision to call an uber and not the police. 4/

Taking my 8 month pregnant self out on a search mission at 4 a.m. was the better move than calling the police and asking for help locating him.

This happened 1 mile from #RayshardBrooks was killed.

Police are not for non-violent incidents involving Black people
