#nepotisminbollywood is trending, as "outsiders" and the self righteous middle class that peddles the delusion of "merit" are attacking the kapoors etc, conveniently forgetting that they themselves paid a ridiculous donation to get their sons into a school that most cant afford.
Nepotism is just a trigger happy word for looking out for your own, which is the entire point of starting a family, buying a house and getting a promotion. In the creative arts industries like bollywood and Politics (ofc it is an art), nepotism is just more visible.
Celebrities are just like us. Only richer, more attractive and less invisible. They produce films and start political parties, while most of us at best do a salaried job. Unlike celebs, we cannot pass our position on to our children because we do not own it.
But if we did, we would not hesitate to do so. Clearly therefore, we do not hate the rich because of their nepotism, but because our own nepotism is limited by the fact that we are mere functionaries and not "owners".
The roots for both entrepreneurship and communist revolutions stem from this agony of not "owning". In more ways than one, entrepreneurs that were ex employees are no different from union leaders and dilettante revolutionaries. Entrepreneurs just know how to game the system.
At its best capitalism provides an incentive to break nepotism and starting your own nepotism, which can compete and be more efficient. Capitalism will support nepotism till it works. Nothing can make up for lack of skill. Which is why businesses fail and nobody casts Imran Khan.
If you take a moral stand against nepotism, do not marry. Because it is natural to wish to provide for the ungrateful little children that spring from your loins. This was the Buddha's message, and this is also Rahul Gandhi's message, who has vowed to remain a bachelor.
