Today, I have resigned as President & Group CEO of PNB. There were so many rumours going around, allow me to clarify through this thread.
When I took this role on, I told everybody I will never waver in my principles in performing my duties. Oftentimes making the right decisions is riddled with difficulties and some will be unpopular. There was a line I would not cross.
The easy route would be to continue enjoying the perks of the office, whilst battling with your own good conscience. I have always believed that no individual is larger than any institution.
I have no intention of dragging PNB into this. PNB must be safeguarded at all costs. Hence I have chosen this difficult path, one that is lonely and devastating for my family & I
Over the past week, I have been harassed by abusive phone calls from private numbers, hacking of my other (non PNB) corporate account. My LinkedIn account was also hacked
My assistant alerted me to this where I found details on my profile changed. To reflect the narrative of stories peddling around over the weekend. The images floating online was also doctored.
I don’t wish to dwell on this unfortunate incident. Those who know me understand why I stepped down. Those who dont, no matter what I say it wont be enough. So I wont engage. I just want closure. I’m not going to respond to any queries.
This level of harassment made me worry for my family’s wellbeing. In the end it was not worth the effort when my family was unfairly being dragged into this unfortunate situation.
We made a big financial & family sacrifice to return to KL from Singapore because I truly wanted to contribute to nation building. Sadly this has come to an abrupt end.
I have never been attracted to the perks of my office. I was always driven by niat baik, to do good. So these personal attacks are uncalled for.
Despite all this, I don’t regret joining PNB. The past 8.5 months have been rewarding and I have learnt so much. I’m very proud of what PNB has achieved in a short time
I’d like to thank my Board for their wonderful support. It’s the best Board any CEO can have. Special mention to TS Zeti for giving me this opportunity to serve and taking a chance with an unknown.
I have learnt greatly under your guidance and will have fond nemories of our weekly discussions. Thank you for all the advice and wisdom.
To my leadership team, thank you for believing in me and always supportive of my initiatives, though some may sound radical. Thank you for taking this journey with me. Please continue giving the incoming CEO the same support you have extended me
To my CEO office, my PA Dena, thank you for taking care of me and my family. My driver, Yusri who never allows me to walk anywhere and whom my kids adore. Terima kasih.
My Strategy team for all the hours you have spent with me carving out my vision for PNB. Thank you for your dedication and always being available when I need you guys.
My special officer, Abbas my rock who from day one has been by my side co-ordinating everything and navigating the organisation and offering me the souding board I need. I will miss you dearly.
To warga PNB, terima kasih. Each and everyone of you have played a role to get the firm to where it is today. I hope I have made a difference to PNB and your lives in the short time I was here.
Please always stay the course, never waver in integrity and principals. Always remember the Amanah that has been entrusted upon you by the 14m unitholders who rely on you to deliver returns from their hard earned money. Ultimately we are only answerable to One.
Finally, my wife who sacrificed her own aspirations in order for me to forge ahead in my career. Thank you. When we moved back to KL, I told her it’ll be worth it. I’m sorry it didn’t work out that way.
We celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday. A milestone that means more now given we have to make our next big decision in life. We take solace that Allah knows best and always with the righteous
I’d just like your prayers that we come out of this strongly. It’s been terrible on my young family, especially my wife. I want this to stop. I have stepped down. Let me move on.
Principals & integrity are two things nobody can take away from you. Only you decide if you want to let it go. I go out proud knowing that this was never compromised. Thank you.
