Unpopular opinion but I stand by it: teachers losing jobs, big schools unable 2 sustain if parents don't pay fees for two months, compulsion of bombarding kids with instruction based learning - all of this is largely a product of commercialisation of the edu system in our country
First governments allowed big corporates/private players to open schools and charge as per their whims and fancies. Then parents started sending their kids to malls and not schools. When hikes happened, parents made noise. But when schools said we don't care ,they kept quiet
Governments failed to act. Parents started treating education like service - I pay so I want results. If schools don't function for a day, they make a hue and cry , if they take day long classes they say kids get tired, homeschooling -no who has the time.
Teachers work day and night but are treated badly. No place to complain because like I said schools are corporates. Have a problem ? Kindly leave. And in all this, small aided government schools are dying a slow death. Teachers are pushing to achieve learning outcomes here
In all these years , governments have just run them like it's a liability. Right to education only means bringing children into the four walls of classrooms. Educationists talk, researchers write papers. But people like you and me are not bothered.
Oh but we want to give our child the best education. If that were the case, why are IB schools not producing whiz kids? We need to fix accountability. At all levels. Who is taking decisions, in whose interests and what are the longtime repercussions of these decisions .
We need to ask all these questions. We need to understand grassroot issues. And they are beyond access. Issues of first generation learners, migrants kids are as much ours as issues that come with elite schools.
