AFAIK, this Temple was built by Indian Hindus from Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu for the most part, 30 years ago.

The Richmond Hill Ganesha Temple was taken over by Sri Lankan Tamil Hindus in the early 2000s, and they have had complete control over Temple management since then, despite their own internal squabbles.

This is the Temple where Dr. Subramanian Swamy was prevented from speaking several times, because of his long running tussle with The LTTE.

A year ago, it came to attention of Temple Management that a real estate company, MANSOURI LIVING, owned by 'BRAMIC Iranian immigrants, planned to build Condo Towers that were going to be twice the height of Temple Gopuram.

Temple Management objected.

The Temple management, mainly Sri Lankan Tamil Hindus, did NOT see this as a DHARMIC (vs) 'BRAMIC issue. They saw it only as a local zoning issue, easily taken care of by delegating before the Richmond Hill City council public meeting.

They've failed.

Now, management of The Richmond Hill Ganesha Hindu Temple is seeking the help of broader Canadian Hindu community, in the Toronto area, in a last ditch attempt to stop 'BRAMIC owned MANSOURI LIVING from going ahead with their Condo Towers plan.

This is part of letter sent out by Temple management seeking support from Hindus in last ditch attempt to stop Richmond Hill City Council from approving Condo Development plan that will obstruct the Temple Gopuram.

The public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

I've tweeted this thread to highlight how Hindus are having the right to "essential religious practice" trampled in countries that pride themselves on their "secular" outlook.

The truth is, "secularism" doesn't really extend to DHARMICS.

Must be mentioned here that Sri Lankan Tamil Hindus, who are seeking broader Hindu support in their efforts to stop a Condo development, did NOT support other Hindu efforts a few years back to stop practice of 'slamic prayers in Canadian public schools.
