I used to think that the desire to be part of an exciting social “scene” was basically just about sublimated mate selection. I don’t think that any more.
I’m happily married with a 2yo kid, and I still totally fantasize about going to glamorous parties when quarantine is over.
I also think the desire for emotional connection with people gets assumed to be exclusively romantic, and at least for me it’s not. It doesn’t go away as I get older; it just gets harder to schedule.
