the video of Lecrae is a critical example of why proximity to death-dealing figures and institutions is costly. his entire last album was a strong and CORRECT critique of the white evangelical machine. it’s not that he lacks awareness. it’s that he hasn’t cut ties.

when you divest, white people know that they can no longer call on you to be the Black face of their white supremacist theologies and praxes. when you divest, you welcome the losses of economic and social capital as gains. when you divest, you get your soul back.
there’s nothing Louie Giglio or any of his friends can say that would surprise me at this point. the surprise is when Blacks continue to support these “ministries” and go to their churches. or show up to their couches for “sacred conversations on race.” 🙄
