I am so over being told what I think when I see a penis. First, Freud told me when a young girl first encounters a ... penis "[s]he makes her judgment and her decision in a flash. She has seen it and knows that she is without it and wants to have it." #NotInMyName 1/n
Now @jk_rowling, other anti-trans activists, and even Justice Samuel Alito tell me that, as a rape survivor, I'm triggered by seeing, or by the very thought of seeing, a penis in a locker room. (I've never had occasion to see anyone's genitals in a women's room.) #NotInMyName 2/n
And @jk_rowling adds, channeling Trump's rhetoric, "[h]uge numbers of women are justifiably terrified by trans activists." HUGE numbers. #NotInMyName 3/n
She says, w/no evidence, that women terrified by trans activists "are in the vast majority and exclude only those privileged or lucky enough never to have come up against male violence or sexual assault, and who've never troubled to educate themselves on how prevalent it is." 4/n
I'm a radical feminist myself & a critic of prevailing gender norms, but I don't think anyone born with a penis is, by nature, a threat. I'm not triggered by my husband's anatomy—and wasn't by that of my young son. #NotInMyName 5/n
I survived a rape and attempted murder by a man, wrote a book about it, study male sexual violence against women, and teach courses on the subject. I will not allow anyone to say I'm terrified by trans activists or triggered by the very thought of seeing a penis. #NotInMyName 6/n
Stop co-opting my trauma to further your agenda. #NotInMyName 7/n
My rape is not your anti-trans propaganda. fin #NotInMyName
Watching closing arguments in the Chauvin trial and I'm stunned. So much of the prosecution's argument is devoted to proving that George Floyd is a PERSON, a HUMAN BEING. Because that NEEDS to be proven. 1/n #GeorgeFloyd
Prosecuting Attorney, Steve Schleicher, started off by saying George Perry Floyd, Jr.'s full name and showing photos of him, as a child with his mom, as an adult with others. "He was surrounded by people...he cared about and who cared about him." 2/n
Some may think this humanizing of Floyd is irrelevant to the charges. But it's not.
Schleicher ALSO had to prove that Floyd was not a SUPERhuman, with superhuman strength, a threat, unable to feel pain, not like other humans. "There are no superhumans, impervious to pain." 3/n
