ASATT is the third studio album released on September 30, 2016 by the American singer, songwriter, producer, performer and actress Solange Knowles. A Grammy winner album and acclaimed by music critics become her first number one album on the Billboard 200. ImageImage
She been working on this project since 2013 till it’s release in 2016. The album is basically about her family stories, anger, pain, heal, struggles and black empowerment, this project is more directed to black women. “A project on identity, empowerment, independence and grief”.
1. Rise

The first track written for the album. Solange talks about staying true to oneself, in times of both success and failure. ImageImage
2. Weary

Solange shows herself as someone that’s ready to take care of herself and ready to fight for her purpose. She aks listeners to question the state of the world. “Why is there social hierarchy based on race, gender, class or sexuality? As humans we all deserve equality” ImageImage
3. Interlude: The Glory Is In You

Master P is introduced for the first time on the album and talks about finding peace and finding glory and success in yourself.

Master P been a friend to Solange since she was a kid. ImageImage
4. Cranes In The Sky

It describes Solange’s attempts at avoiding painful feelings finding every type of distractions. She was going through a rough time after the divorce from her son’s father. She was trying to find her identity outside of being a mother and a wife. ImageImage
5. Interlude: Dad was mad

Solange’s father Matthew Knowles describes the racism he experienced growing up and how angry he was for many years, and how traumatic this was for him. ImageImage
6. Mad (feat. Lil Wayne)

This song finds Solange exploring black emotional vulnerability. Why African Americans are always seen as “Angry people”. Also accepting that black people have the right to be mad and reasons to be mad. ImageImage
7. Don’t You Wait

This track addresses Solange’s previous audience which celebrated her successful 2012 EP “True”. During her four years hiatus,she realized white critics felt entitled to music which avoided discussions politics and racism.This track rebels against these critics ImageImage
8. Interlude: Tina Taught Me (feat. Tina Lawson)

Solange’s mother, Tina Lawson speaks about having pride and love for her culture and heritage and her sadness with the criticism coming from white people when black culture is celebrated calling them “Anti-white”. ImageImage
9. Don’t Touch My Hair (feat. Sampha)

Solange celebrates here the style and beauty of black hair, also the deep and spiritual meaning that hair has for black people. Black Hair it’s not open for commentaries coming from white people, it’s not a demonstration of fun or judgement. ImageImage
10. Interlude: This moment (feat. Master P)

It’s basically a moment of reflection for Black People and also trying to make white people understand what is actually happening to black people. (Couldn’t find any explication for this track so i made my own interpretation) ImageImage
11. Where Do We Go

Solange talks about her family’s story on this track. Her grandparents were ran out of town (New Iberia, Luisiana) leaving to somewhere else because of the racism they experienced in Louisiana. ImageImage
12. Interlude: For Us By Us (feat. Master P)

FUBU is a company for clothes that had a strong connection with the black community. This interlude celebrates the way black people can easily communicate trough their products (clothes and etc). ImageImage
13. F.U.B.U

This track is a black empowerment anthem. It follows the idea of the previous interlude. ImageImage
14. Borderline (An Ode to Self Care)

On this track Solange reminds the listener that with all the bad thinhs going on (that certainly deserve our attention and protest)he still needs to take a break and forget the troubles of the world every once in awhile in order to stay sane ImageImage
15. Interlude: I Got So Much Magic, You Can Have It (feat. Nia Andrews & Kelly Rowland)

A reminder that you shouldn’t let anything or anyone steal your essence and brightness. You still need some magic reserved after all (Coming from my own interpretation) ImageImage
16. Junie

It’s about cultural appropriation. And how white people just refuse to learn about other cultures and their meanings and just go and repeat what they see without even knowing what they’re doing just to look cool. ImageImage
17. Interlude: No Limits (Feat. Master P)

Master P talks about the meaning and how he started his own company. ImageImage
18. Don’t Wish Me Well

This track is about growth and moving in life but will allow “you” to join her on the Journey ImageImage
19. Interlude: Pedestals (feat. Master P)

Master P talks about people having their own struggles, even people who we “praise” or put in a pedestal, a reminder that they still humans. ImageImage
20. Scales (feat. Kelela)

On this track Solange weights the value of various status symbols and warns against letting others determine yout self-worth. It may also explore how different people think about a local drug dealer. ImageImage
21. Closing: The Chosen Ones (feat. Master P)

“The fact that we are the chosen ones shouldn’t make anyone feel uncomfortable because,for us, as people to literally go through the journey that we have, endured what we have, and to be where we are now,we had to be the chosen ones” ImageImage
