I find it funny that trolls are attacking @mariaressa and Rappler, saying we're supposedly 'twisting' truth when there are ALL THESE GROUPS speaking up. Why so? Truth is the verdict goes beyond Rappler. It should concern us all.

Here's a THREAD ~~~
From law experts on the issue of prescription: The verdict sets a dangerous precedent not just for media but to everyone online. Law experts agreed that cyber libel MUST PRESCRIBE IN ONLY 1 YEAR.

Here ya go: rappler.com/nation/263987-…
Even the business community is backing up Maria! In a very bold move, 6 huge business groups expressed how the verdict "dangerously diminishes civil rights." That's not Rappler speaking again. These are your businessmen.

And the youth! Let's not forget the youth! We tracked several student organizations and youth groups releasing statements about the verdict. Just too many to mention. #CourageON, kids!! rappler.com/move-ph/263847…
Twitter, arguably the more superior social media platform compared to u know what (hehehe), also took a stand. 👏🏼
The academe is not missing in the picture. Nag-group work pa sila (hello ADMU!!) to craft a joint statement. Their stand? That the verdict only proves that government could exhaust resources to attack its critics 🧠rappler.com/move-ph/263877…
But you gotta hand it down to our human rights groups -- being among the first to release statements. Not surprising given they claim it "sends a dangerous message to the public that anyone and everyone can be criminalized for their views and opinions"

And from progressive groups: the government was taking advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to attack the media. rappler.com/nation/263946-…
Okay. Let's go international, shall we? Tita Hillary and Tita Madeleine both posted on social media to express their support to Maria. Powerful women supporting another powerful woman. :) rappler.com/nation/263911-…
UN experts David kaye and Agnes Callamard also described the verdict as a “tragedy for Philippine democracy.” 😐

rappler.com/nation/263828-…
International media groups are watching! And it came from them: the conviction is a crime against press freedom. rappler.com/nation/263844-…
And in case you missed it too: The US called for a resolution of the case. Not surprising since they also released a rare statement when Maria was arrested over the same cyber libel case in February 2019. rappler.com/nation/264028-…
One of my favorite statements for being so on-point is the one released by the Consortium of Democracy and Disinfo. They slammed the ruling as "unjust, uncomprehending, and unconstitutional."

Ang dami pang statements actually proving that Rappler is not alone in this. Will update this thread later 😅 If you know of other statements, please reply them here!!
