Five years have passed and it still feels like a bad dream, but we know it actually happened. The senseless murder of nine parishioners at Mother Emanuel hit South Carolina like a ton of bricks.
It remains hard to understand how anyone could have so much hate in their heart. To be welcomed into a church, worship with the parishioners, and then turn around and shoot them in cold blood remains one of the most horrific acts ever recorded.
Then just days after this horrible tragedy, the people at Mother Emanuel showed a level of love and forgiveness that was truly unimaginable. It was an act that is rarely seen. I personally cannot imagine turning to the person who killed my family members saying I forgive you.
I know that type of grace can only come from God. Of all the things that I've seen in public life, the words from the family members continue to amaze me to this day. You must truly have the love of the Lord in your heart to be able to muster that kind of forgiveness.
On the five year anniversary, we think of those who lost their lives and the families left behind. The Christmases without loved ones. The birthdays missed. Our hearts are still broken and our prayers remain with the parishioners at Mother Emanuel.

The states’ rights only rationale today runs contrary to an American consensus that would limit late-term abortions and will age about as well as the Dred Scott decision.
The science is clear – a child at fifteen weeks is well-developed and is capable of feeling pain.
I will continue to advocate that there should be a national minimum standard limiting abortion at fifteen weeks because the child is capable of feeling pain, with exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.
Their policy of deterrence against Iran has failed miserably. There have been over 100 attacks against U.S. forces in the region.
Iran is undeterred.
I am sending my condolences to the families of our fallen heroes in Jordan. I am also wishing a full recovery to those injured. Our forces in Jordan and Syria are there to protect the American homeland and to provide stability in a troubled region. Their service and sacrifice will always be appreciated. They are true heroes.
Everyone is right to suggest that Hamas’ barbaric attack against Israel was aided by Iran. Everyone is right when they say that Iran is the chief supporter of Hezbollah - a Shiite terrorist organization with tens of thousands of rockets pointed at Israel from Lebanon.
Iran should pay dearly for any escalation directed at Israel involving Hezbollah.
An attack by Hezbollah, and other Iranian proxies, would be devastating to Israeli defense systems. If such an attack occurs, Israel and the United States should go after the Iranian oil refineries and oil infrastructure - which is the lifeblood of the Iranian economy.
Before today, Republicans were unified and working together to push Democrats to accept real border security.
Because of the chaos in the House today, it makes it harder to talk about the failed Biden Presidency and address our broken southern border.
Today’s action takes the attention off of President Biden’s many failures and put a spotlight on Republican infighting!
It was the first time in American history that a motion to vacate was successful. (There was probably a reason that for 200+ years others chose not to do this!)
Today will prove to be a step backwards on multiple fronts.
Biggest Winners:
➡️ Terrorists: We haven’t funded our military or the intelligence community.
➡️ Mexican Drug Cartels: We are no longer talking about how to fix a broken border and now have a weaker hand in our negotiations with President Biden.
➡️ President Biden: Gets a break and takes the focus and attention away from his many failures in office.
Just returned from a very successful and important visit to Ukraine with Senators Blumenthal and Warren. Eighteen months after the invasion, Ukraine is on the offense recapturing land that was illegally seized by Russia, NATO has increased in size, the Russian economy is in decline, the Russian military is being decimated, and Putin is facing an international arrest warrant for war crimes involving children.
It is imperative that America continues to support Ukraine’s military. Specifically, the need for long range artillery - ATACMS - is urgent. America should also take over the F-16 transfer program to speed things up.
In spite of slow deliveries of de-mining equipment and other essential weapons, Ukraine is making steady progress on multiple fronts in their counteroffensive.
No American troops have been requested or needed, and not one American soldier has been lost in this endeavor. With continued support from the U.S. & our allies, the Russian invasion will crumble, which would be a tremendous gain for freedom and a decisive defeat for aggression.
1⃣ Agrees that the deployment of the Russian Federation’s tactical nuclear weapons within the Republic of Belarus is a threat to Ukraine and NATO member states.
2⃣ Views the use of any tactical nuclear weapon by the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, or their proxies, or the destruction of a nuclear facility, dispersing radioactive contaminates into NATO territory causing significant harm to human life.....
......as an attack on NATO requiring an immediate response, including the implementation of Article V of the North Atlantic Treaty.
