What's preventing a group like ISIS from declaring its own "autonomous zone" in a U.S. district with favorable politics and demanding the same benevolent neglect from officials and the media as the Antifa goons?
Would the new U.S. ISIS caliphate also be allowed to build walls around its autonomous zone, patrol them with armed sentinels, violently expel anyone who didn't agree with their politics, and intimidate anyone who tried to investigate their activities?
Would the warlords of the ISIS autonomous zone be allowed to destroy statues and monuments they find offensive? They're really good at it, so they wouldn't need any how-to articles from Popular Mechanics. They have a long list of monuments they would consider deeply offensive.
Would the ISIS autonomous zone be allowed to impose their code of laws on everyone caught living inside their barriers? Would they be allowed to control commerce and traffic? Unlike Antifa, they wouldn't have to beg for donations to survive - they'd get plenty of outside support.
Would the ISIS autonomous zone be lauded as a fascinating experiment in self-rule by Democrat-controlled newspapers and TV networks? Would they write admiring articles about the pluck and political savvy of the warlords? Salute their music and poetry?
The ISIS autonomous zone would treat intruding Christian preachers about the same way Antifa did - perhaps a bit more vigorously. Would the media look the other way, make it a page B-23 story at best? Write admiring stories about the armed "sentinels" guarding the "borders?"
Would the media react in stunned horror and outrage when Republican politicians talked about sending in the military to put a stop to the ISIS autonomous zone? Would the New York Times stage a woke revolt against anyone who suggested such brutal tyranny?
Would we be told to give the ISIS autonomous zone time to develop, wait to see what kind of Deep Thoughts its leaders came up with, applaud the absolute sense of righteousness that animated them, take a knee and lower our heads in respect when they present their grievances?
Would the Democrat politicians who ran the city and state where the ISIS autonomous zone appeared pretend it didn't exist, act like the never heard of it for a while, and then applaud the establishment of the zone as an exhilarating exercise of free speech rights?
If it's okay for some organizations to establish autonomous zones and secede from the Union, but not others, shouldn't our elite prepare a list of allowed groups so nobody makes a terrible mistake? Precisely what conditions does a valid secessionist movement have to meet? /end
