LETTER FROM A FATHER TO HIS UNBORN CHILD”

Dated : May 27th, 1999
In some base camp, Kargil.

My dear child,
First of all,let me tell you the purpose of writing you this letter. I know may be this is the last chance I get to communicate with you. So I want
to have a direct conversation with you, i.e.,where we interact (in a limitedway may be) directly and you are not hearing someone talking about me and is not under the influence that yourfather was a great man or a hero.
Outside it’s so cold. The stormy wind cuts through ourflesh even after repeated protective layer of clothes to fight the cold. It must be around -20 degrees or so.Reminds me of the comfort of the room in my hometown in such lovely night
Outside, the first round of call has
been made for us. Yeah we are going on a mission. A "DO or DIE MISSION”. So, you see,the “COLD” is just theicing while the cake is a whole lot of other troubles andobstacles. Life is very tough here, my baby and trust mewhen I say “TOUGH” it has a different meaning sitting at an
Altitude of 16000+ feet above the sea level waiting for death or destiny to take over. I miss so much things in my life. I miss spending time with my family seeing my brothers and sisters growing up in to matured person miss my home with all the cherished memories I have. Wish
I could spend some more time with your mother. But above all, I miss now and waiting for you to come to this world. What a wonderful journey it must be the anticipation of being a father. I know choosing a civilian life would have ensured I didn’t miss
Most of these things. My family would have found me facing most of the troubles being the eldest son. Your mother wouldn't have to attend all social gatherings alone and answering to people's queries about my where my bouts. But I choose this life over civilian life you know why?
Words describe it all RESPECT, PRIDE, HONOUR. The respect I and my family get from the society the pride in the knowledge that we are the sons dedicated to the service and security of our "Mother India" and the honor we get in the life as well as in death keeps me going
In tough situation like this. And I can trade all the comforts of life just to be in the olive green uniform over and over again. Wait does this sound too selfish to you?Do you miss having stories to recount when your friends in school discuss about
Their father's? Well dear tell them just onething it is for the Fujis spending sleepless nights at the borders that your friends are getting chance to have a normal family conversation at dinner table. Does that make you proud now? I wish I can live up to see you growing up to
Be a responsible Indian Citizen. In case, our path never crosses, take care of your mother. Study well. Make every one proud by becoming a true and honest human being. I will always look at you from the sky. And can I share a secret wish I always harboured since the time I got
Your mother's letter. Informing me about you? I will be happy with whatever you do but I will br proud if I can see my child at the PoP ( passing out parade) and taking oath of serving nation. That day one star will shine extra at the night sky
And you know who it is!! Take care of your mom when you grow up!!
