Although the perks offered by the official gov website sound good - they aren’t all that they seem. Responses and debates aren’t always necessarily useful!🤔 (2/7)
Unlike independent sites, where petitions can stay live until you win the campaign, the parliament website closes down all petitions that have been live for 6 months. They also reset all their petitions after an election.⏳ (3/7)
There are lots of petitions out there. Unless they are part of a wider campaign - they are unlikely to be taken seriously by people in power. But the official gov petition site doesn’t help you to share petitions or take other actions like writing to MPs or meeting offline. (4/7)
That’s why, despite what some politicians might say - it is generally a lot harder to pressure people in power from the website that they control. (5/7)
