We are in a relentless Arctic #heatwave - Siberia is literally on fire right now and it's set to continue.

Temperatures will comfortably exceed + 30 °C within the Arctic Circle over the next 10 days at least. It is a staggering + 20-25 °C warmer than it should be...

It is not just Northern Russia in the furnace. Let's head over to Canada and take a look...

Temperatures over +30 °C will spread north of the Arctic Circle line - north of the semi frozen Hudson Bay.

Islands of Nunavut and Northwest Territories will be baking hot.
And let's not forget about Scandinavia. Currently we have temperatures widespread high 20s Celsius and in places breaking + 30 °C. This is hotter than large parts of Southern Europe right now.
We are seeing extreme heat hammer the same places which have been extraordinary hot so far this year. Large parts of Asia are already averaging more than + 5 °C warmer than normal for the first five months this year.

2020 threatens the warmest global mean temperature record.
Why should we care?

Heat is responsible for Siberian fires and these can be seen from space. Fires release more CO2 into the atmosphere, adding to the problems of climate change.

Permafrost is thawing at an alarming rate, especially during these Arctic heatwaves.

Russia's catastrophic diesel spill at the end of last month is partly blamed by infrastructure becoming compromised due to thawing permafrost.

Wildlife and ecosystems struggle to adapt to such abrupt and extreme temperature changes. Disappearing sea ice is an obvious issue for the Polar Bear for example.

We all know that a food web is complex. This article can summarise it better than I can --> climate.org/climate-change…
And finally... there is so much going on the world right now but the changing climate marches on.

There are some fantastic people out there on twitter who help keep me in the loop. To name a few...

And thanks to @ASophie_MM for bringing this to my attention. Crazy heat for parts of Canada right now.
Just in... Blimey, that's a big record to fall.
