Ask your patient they would like an interpreter and get one. If your hospital does not have interpretation services for the patients you treat then get on that.
Ask your patient about their ancestry and their community. Guaranteed you will learn some valuable information that will help their care. Want to know what Traditional Lands or Treaty Territory land you are on? Native-land.ca
Ask if your patient follows traditional healing practices. Familiarize yourself with the resources available to support First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples at your hospital. If there aren’t any ask why.

Take a cultural safety course.
