There are more people serving life without parole sentences in Louisiana than in AL, AR, MS, and TX combined. 73.4% of lifers in Louisiana are Black even though African Americans make up only 32% of the state population. We need serious reform and change. washingtonpost.com/national/thous…
We need serious reform to address the racial disparities, but we also need to work toward a change in our priorities when it comes to incarceration and rehabilitation.
So many people serving life sentences in Louisiana were convicted of crimes that would never be eligible for such draconian sentencing in any other state.
