Local governments should decide the fate of monuments, not mobs. That's civil society 101.

The vast majority of Union soldiers fell on southern soil. They were Americans fighting on American land, yet their monuments are sparse on the ground. Build more.

What's incredible about both men, two of the 25 black medal of honor winners in the Civil War, is that they both were awarded the medal for heroically carrying the flag -- the same flag that nurtured slavery for too long was the flag of the army that ultimately ended slavery. /4

It's hard to think of a more unifying method of remembering American history than providing these American soldiers -- and many others -- with the recognition that they at long last deserve. Anyway, that's my simple idea. Build more. Remember the men we've wrongly forgotten. /end
