Interesting:
Republicans rail against the protests as primarily negative, destructive and an inherent threat to law and order.
Democratic lawmakers have actually marched with the protesters, and recognize that 99% of them are peaceful, concerned about Black people being
brutalized and murdered by some of the police. They see the police violence against the protesters as outrageous, an affront to our freedom of assembly.
Republicans frame the police action as justifiable.
The difference is so stark.
Trump brands the protests as anarchists,
with no sympathy to their cause whatsoever. He encourages armed bands of right wingers to confront the protesters, and claims, for example, that Seattle was being overrun with criminals, when the truth is that 6 blocks of one street were cordoned off, with a festival like feel.
Who do you believe represent the American spirit and patriotism, of legitimate protest and free speech?
Who represents oppression and intolerance of free speech and assembly?
America is at a crossroads, where our very nature is being challenged by authoritarian rule.
I hope that freedom and tolerance will prevail. That is what is at stake this November. Let us hope that reason prevails, and intolerance fails.
